As the final major construction item of OLMC Parramatta’s masterplan, the Ailsa Mackinnon Centre provides a new ‘whole of school community’ facility on the last parcel of developable land on the campus.
The building is inherently flexible, designed to deal with the variable needs of large gatherings of people. The building provides facilities for numerous sports and school community gatherings. These large multipurpose spaces are bookended to the east by general learning spaces that are designed to be variable in size to provide opportunities for varying learning activities. The rooftop has been designed to be trafficable to maximise the play space within the restricted site.
Developed from a strong collaborative partnership with the school, Stanton Dahl vigorously approached a design process of exploration and experimentation to deliver a design solution that embodies the school’s vision of ‘community’ and ‘gathering’ in a flexible, contemporary facility.
