Introduction

For over two decades, Stanton Dahl Architects has worked in close partnership with Sydney Anglican Schools Corporation to guide the transformation and expansion of Thomas Hassall Anglican College.

From the initial masterplan in 1999 to the delivery of over $50 million in construction works, this long-standing collaboration has shaped a thriving, future-focused learning environment that supports academic excellence, student wellbeing, and community engagement.

The original masterplan established a central courtyard model, providing cohesion between junior and senior schools. As student numbers doubled to 1,800, a revised masterplan in 2013 introduced a central hub, creating clear connections between primary, middle, and senior schools. This strategic framework has allowed for staged development, ensuring the campus continues to evolve in response to educational and community needs.

Strategic planning and staged delivery

Stanton Dahl Architects is proud to have played a role in this remarkable journey, helping to shape a campus that meets the needs of today’s students while remaining adaptable for future generations.

Key milestones in the campus’ evolution include the completion of a multi-purpose classroom and library facility, a major refurbishment of the school auditorium and hospitality spaces, and the 2018 opening of the Rawden Middleton VC Sports Complex. This state-of-the-art multi-sports hall, capable of seating 1,200 spectators, has quickly become an important facility for both the school and the wider community, hosting NSW Premier League Netball matches and the NSW Futsal Championship finals. In addition to the sports hall, the complex features a dance studio, an outdoor athletics track, and a full-sized Australian Football League pitch, offering students access to elite-level sporting facilities.

The College’s commitment to early learning and student wellbeing has also been a focus in recent years. In 2019, a purpose-built kindergarten was completed, providing young learners with engaging and nurturing spaces. This was followed in 2020 by the refurbishment of administration facilities, which introduced modern student wellbeing amenities, ensuring that student pastoral care and support services are integrated into the daily fabric of campus life.

Testimonial

“Stanton Dahl have been an excellent team to work with. They are co-operative, they listen to what we say; they assist by challenging us and providing insight as a consequence of their broad range of educational experience. We would have no hesitation in continuing to use Stanton Dahl on our own projects and would be more than happy to recommend them to others.”
