Introduction

St Andrew’s Primary School has embraced a new era of engaging and flexible learning, with the completion of a two-storey learning building, extensive refurbishments, and a revitalised playground landscape.

Designed to support collaboration, creativity, and student wellbeing, this transformation provides students and educators with purposeful, adaptable spaces that enhance the overall learning experience.

The new building accommodates four expansive, open-plan learning spaces, designed to cater for up to 240 students. A key focus of the design was ensuring a balance between openness and structure, creating varied learning settingsthat suit different teaching styles and student needs. The integration of flexible furnishings, banquette seating, small group ‘caves,’ and café-style window benches allows for both collaborative group work and quiet, focused study.

Description

A series of breakout rooms and shared media spaces further enrich the learning environment. These dedicated areas include tiered seating, large-format televisions, and green screen technology, fostering interactive and multimedia-driven learning experiences. Thoughtfully designed large sliding doors seamlessly connect the internal spaces to covered outdoor learning areas, encouraging a blended indoor-outdoor approach to education.

Beyond the classroom, the project saw a comprehensive upgrade of the school’s playground areas, replacing degraded surfaces with artificial turf interwoven with native gardens. The landscape now features tiered seating, a learning circle, an extended COLA (Covered Outdoor Learning Area), and improved campus circulation that enhances accessibility to the Library and other key facilities.
