Introduction

The goal was to create a space that would not only support the institution’s growing needs but also strengthen its role as a cultural and community hub for Wagga Wagga and the wider Riverina region.

The Riverina Conservatorium of Music in Wagga Wagga has long been a pillar of musical education and cultural enrichment in the region. In 2016, with a vision to expand and enhance its facilities, the Conservatorium engaged Stanton Dahl Architects to assist in preparing a proposal to the NSW Government for a new, purpose-built music education facility.

Located on the shoreline of Wollundry Lagoon, near the city’s civic and cultural precinct, the new facility represents a significant step forward for the Conservatorium. Its prime CBD location places it at the heart of the community, ensuring that it continues to inspire musical learning and excellence for generations to come. The state-of-the-art building has been carefully designed to accommodate a variety of specialist spaces, including administration areas, teaching studios, and dedicated rehearsal rooms. A standout feature of the design is a premium performance training space, meticulously engineered with specialised acoustics to provide an unparalleled experience for students preparing for recitals and live performances.

Realising the vision

The Riverina Conservatorium of Music’s new home not only elevates the study and performance of music in the region but also reinforces Wagga Wagga’s place as a thriving centre for the arts.
