Caroline Chisholm College, embarked on a transformative journey to reimagine its learning environment, ensuring that its facilities matched the ambition, creativity, and spirit of its students.
With a growing student body and a vision for a modern, future-ready campus, the Catholic Schools Parramatta Diocese engaged Stanton Dahl Architects to develop a comprehensive masterplan that would enhance the school’s identity, presence, and connection to the wider community.
The redevelopment, which commenced in 2017, was carefully staged to introduce contemporary, purpose-built spaces while maintaining a sense of cohesion with the existing campus. The first stage of the project delivered state-of-the-art creative and performing arts facilities, along with modern general learning areas designed to support collaboration and flexibility. A dedicated performance space was established, elevating the presence of music, dance, and drama within the school. Specialist learning environments were tailored to inspire creativity, with the visual arts facilities completely transformed into four dynamic studios equipped for ceramics, screen printing, and photographic/lighting work. To improve accessibility and flow throughout the campus, the canteen and café were strategically relocated, while 11 existing classrooms were reimagined as open, interactive spaces that encourage student engagement.
With the success of the first stage, attention turned to the future, and plans for the next phase of the transformation took shape. The second stage focused on redesigning the school’s Technology and Applied Studies (TAS) facilities, creating a collaborative Innovation Hub that integrates textiles, woodworking, graphics, and clean technology. This space is designed to foster hands-on learning, equipping students with the tools and experience to thrive in an ever-evolving world. The transformation also extended beyond individual buildings, strengthening the connections between learning spaces and establishing a new community forecourt that links the existing campus with the emerging cultural centre precinct. This shared zone provides vibrant indoor and outdoor spaces for gathering, studying, and social interaction, further enhancing the school’s sense of identity and belonging.
